MESSAGE FROM THE ROAD CREW
TOWN OF HULL
The Town of Hull's Road Crew plows snow when there is one inch or more. We begin by plowing the main roads such as Brilowski Road, Old Hwy 18, North Second Dr., Wilshire, etc. We then move on to the secondary roads. We sand by the stop signs, curves and the complete road on our main arteries.
We have 82 miles of roads in Hull to plow. There are four (4) separate plowing routes. For a snowfall of four inches, it will take between 10 –12 hours to plow each route.
The Town of Hull's right-of-way is 33 feet from the center of the road. There is also a right-of-way around each cul-de-sac in the Town of Hull. The footage varies depending on the cul-de-sac. We are not responsible for any damage to obstacles within that right-of-way such as sprinkler heads, rock gardens, fences, sod, etc. We push the snow as far on to the right-of-way as we can to allow room for the next snowfall.
When marking your yards, please leave your markers at least four (4) to six (6) feet off of the pavement. After plowing a few times we cannot allow the roads to narrow. It is important to be able to plow the shoulders. When melting occurs, the water will have a place to go. If the shoulders are not plowed properly and melting occurs, the water could potentially flow onto the roadway and freeze thus creating a hazard.
Unless the snow is moved to the right-of-way, future snow falls which have been heavy and frequent in recent years narrows the driving surface creating serious safety and traffic problems. Under Wisconsin Law, Town government is responsible to keep the road safe, open and passable. Not only is Hull liable should this not occur but we receive a large annual grant of money from the State of Wisconsin to ensure safe and well maintained roads.
We need citizen cooperation and support in keeping the roads safe and passable. If there are ways to improve our plowing operation, make it more effective and efficient, and less intrusive to your lawns and property, please let us know.
Once in a while we do knock over a mail box due to heavy snow or the mail box post is not in good condition. Mailboxes should be on breakaway posts (no larger than 4” x 4”) located at least four (4) feet from the paved blacktop. All mail boxes must meet US Postal Service requirements. We will replace mail boxes we damage with mail boxes of similar value as long as the above guidelines are followed.
When we are snowplowing, please stay 200 feet away from the truck. We cannot see you when you travel close behind the truck.
Please remove vehicles from the roadway and place in driveways when snow is anticipated. With vehicles in the roadway, the road narrows with frequent snowstorms and can create a hazard.
